Abstract

The present study conceptualizes external inadequacy pressure (EIP) as an attitudinal system stemming from negative affective valence situations relating to one’s performance expectations and the expectations of others. Using Conservation of Resources Theory (COR), we argue and find that the negative, linear servant leadership--behavioral work-to-family conflict and servant leadership—job insecurity relationships are indirect through EIP. Comparing leader meta-perceptions to subordinate perceptions of servant leadership in a polynomial regression framework, we also show that the relationship between servant leadership and EIP is non-linear.
